This Week on Australian Quiz TV (14–20 September): Hard Quiz and Spicks and Specks Wednesday, Tipping Point's 70 Years Special Thursday

Five weeknights, seven quiz shows, and one night that breaks the pattern. This is the week in Australian quiz TV, with every time in AEST and every repeat marked.
The headline nights are Wednesday, when Hard Quiz airs at 8.00pm and Spicks and Specks at 8.35pm on ABC TV, and Thursday, when Nine runs a 7.30pm Tipping Point special for its 70th anniversary.

Sydney times. Adelaide and Darwin are 30 minutes behind the east-coast clock and Perth two hours; local stations may run their own schedule. "Not labelled" means the guide doesn't mark new or repeat.
How many new episodes are there this week?
By our count from the guide: The Chase has 3 new of 5, Tipping Point 4 of 5, and Hot Seat 3 of 5. Hard Quiz, Spicks and Specks and HYBPA each have one new episode.
That's 13 first-run half-hours and hours in total, plus two specials. Deal or No Deal is left out because the guide doesn't say which of its five are new.
What's on Hard Quiz this Wednesday?
Series 11, episode 17, at 8.00pm on ABC TV and iview with Tom Gleeson. The guide lists this week's expert subjects as F Troop, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Crowded House and eggs.
If you can't wait, ABC TV is also running Series 10 repeats at 6.30pm on weeknights. Our Hard Quiz page will carry the winner after it airs.
Who's on Spicks and Specks this week?
Casey Donovan, Jett Blyton, Geraldine Hickey and Colin Lane join Adam Hills, Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough for Series 13, episode 11. It starts at 8.35pm, straight after Hard Quiz.
Missed it? ABC TV repeats the same episode on Friday at about 9.55pm, and iview has it on demand. More on the Spicks and Specks page.

What is the Tipping Point 70 Years of TV special?
An 80-minute celebrity edition on Thursday at 7.30pm, marking 70 years of Nine. Three duos play for $40,000 for charity: Catriona Rowntree and Jules Lund, Nicky Buckley and Glenn Ridge, and Lisa Chappell and Bridie Carter.
The regular 5pm Tipping Point still airs that afternoon as a new episode. Our Tipping Point guide explains the rest of its week, and reality viewers can see what else is missing on Thursday in AU Reality On Air's week.
Why are The Chase and Hot Seat repeats on Thursday and Friday?
Both shows front-load new episodes early in the week. The Chase is new Monday to Wednesday and Hot Seat the same, with older episodes filling Thursday and Friday.
It isn't a one-off. TVmaze's schedule for The Chase lists it as a Monday-to-Wednesday series, and this week's Hot Seat listings follow the same shape. The Chase guide and our 10 quiz hour guide break it down.
Which quiz shows clash this week?
Two clashes matter. At 5.00pm every weeknight, The Chase on Seven and Tipping Point on Nine start together, so one of them needs recording. On Thursday that's an easy call, because Tipping Point is new and The Chase is a repeat.
The second is Monday at 7.30pm. 10's 70-minute Deal or No Deal special goes up against The Block on Nine and The Voice's quarter-final on Seven. Quiz fans who also follow reality TV have a three-way choice.
What's the best night for quiz fans this week?
Monday, on sheer volume: five of our shows air between 5pm and 9pm-ish, including the only HYBPA of the week. Wednesday is the pick for quality, with Hard Quiz and Spicks and Specks running back to back from 8pm on the ABC.
Friday is the weakest. Every show with a new-or-repeat label is a repeat that afternoon and evening, so it's a good night to catch up on iview, 7plus, 9Now or 10Play instead.
What changes next week?
Based on TVmaze listings, HYBPA has a new episode on Monday 21 September, and Hard Quiz and Spicks and Specks both have new episodes listed for Wednesday 23 September. Spicks and Specks has no new episodes listed after that date, but the ABC hasn't said the series is ending, so we're treating the end of the run as unconfirmed.
Our next weekly schedule goes up on Saturday 19 September. If a show is pulled for sport or a special before then, we'll add an update box to this page.
