Have You Been Paying Attention? What Time It's On, Who's on the Panel and How to Watch

Short version: Have You Been Paying Attention? goes to air Monday nights at 8.40pm on 10 and 10Play, and runs a full hour to 9.40pm. Tom Gleisner hosts, Ed Kavalee and Sam Pang hold two of the five desks every week, and the other three rotate. It is the last thing on 10's Monday quiz stack, three hours after the first one starts.

Week of 14 September 2026 — HYBPA is in its regular Monday 8.40pm slot, with 10's Late News following at 9.40pm. Checked against the Sydney and Perth Monday guides on On TV Tonight, 20 September.

What time is Have You Been Paying Attention? on?

8.40pm on Monday, on 10. The listing runs to 9.40pm, so it is an hour including ad breaks — the show has been an hour-long format since 2014, when it moved off its original half-hour slot.

That 8.40pm start is worth writing down, because it is not a round number and a recorder set for 8.30pm will clip the open. We checked the Sydney and Perth guides for the same Monday and both had it at 8.40pm on the local clock, which is how Australian networks schedule prime time everywhere.

Who hosts HYBPA and who is on the panel?

Tom Gleisner asks the questions. He has done it since the first episode in November 2013, and he is also one of the show's executive producers through Working Dog, alongside Santo Cilauro, Michael Hirsh and Rob Sitch.

Five people sit at the desks. Ed Kavalee and Sam Pang are permanent, which is the closest thing the show has to a format rule, and the other three seats rotate through comedians, broadcasters and the occasional politician. The line-up for any given week is announced on the show's own channels rather than in the TV guide, so if you are picking a night to watch for a particular guest, that is where to look.

Card listing the time, channel, host and panel of Have You Been Paying Attention?
One night, one hour, two permanent desks.

How does the quiz actually work?

It is a news quiz with the scoring played for laughs. The week's stories are the raw material: five panellists are asked what they can remember about what happened, points go up, and the answers matter less than what gets said on the way to them.

There is no team structure and no elimination. Everyone plays for themselves across the hour, a winner is declared at the end, and nothing carries over to the following week. That is the reason it works as a drop-in show — you can miss six weeks and lose nothing.

We do not reproduce the questions or the answers here. They belong to Working Dog, and half the point of the show is not knowing what is coming.

What else is on 10 before it?

Quite a lot. 10 stacks its quiz hour early in the evening and then comes back to HYBPA later: Deal or No Deal at 6.30pm, Millionaire Hot Seat at 7.00pm, then a gap before 8.40pm. We break that early block down in our guide to 10's weeknight quiz hour.

Across the other networks the same hours belong to The Chase Australia and Tipping Point Australia, both at 5.00pm. If you want the full Monday-to-Friday picture, the weekly schedule sets out which slots are new and which are repeats, and the nightly file does it a day at a time.

How long has the show been running?

Since 3 November 2013, and it is now in its fourteenth season. The episode count passed 357 in September 2026, which is a lot of Mondays for a show that started as a quiz segment on a radio program about the Melbourne Cup.

It has also won ten Logie Awards, including Most Popular Entertainment Program and Most Outstanding Entertainment Program. For a format that began as an idea Rob Sitch heard while waiting to go on air, that is a decent return.

Where can I watch past episodes?

10Play carries the show free after broadcast, the same way it handles the rest of 10's quiz line-up. The official YouTube channel also posts full episodes and clips, which is the easiest place to check a guest line-up you missed.

If you are chasing outcomes rather than episodes, our weekly results file tracks what was new and what rated across every quiz slot. Our sister site covers the reality side of the same nights at AU Reality On Air.

FAQ

Is HYBPA live? No. It is recorded in Melbourne ahead of broadcast, which is why the news it covers is the week's rather than the day's.

Is there a repeat during the week? 10 has run encore screenings of recent episodes on quieter nights, and they are flagged in the guide when they happen. Friday's line-up shows what one of those repeat-heavy nights looks like.

Is The Cheap Seats the same show? No, but it is a relative — same production company, same weekly-news idea, different format. It sits in its own slot on 10.
