Bottom line: the only quiz event tonight is Nine's 70th anniversary special at 7.31pm. The 5pm and 7pm slots on Seven and 10 are both repeats.

That makes Thursday the thinnest weeknight of the quiz week for first-run episodes, and the biggest for one-off television.

What time is Tipping Point: 70 Years of TV on tonight?

7.31pm on Nine and 9Now, running 78 minutes, so it finishes a little before 8.50pm. Nine's own release rounds the start to 7.30pm; the guide has the more precise minute.

It sits after the regular Tipping Point at 4.57pm, which means Todd Woodbridge hosts twice in one night on the same channel.

Who's playing in the 70 Years of TV special?

Three pairs from Nine's back catalogue, each playing for a charity out of a $40,000 pool. Getaway's Catriona Rowntree and Jules Lund are playing for The Reach Foundation. Sale of the Century's Nicky Buckley and Glenn Ridge are backing The Power in You Project, and McLeod's Daughters co-stars Lisa Chappell and Bridie Carter are playing for Dolly's Dream.

Nine describes it as a milestone program for 70 years of television, with the duos going head to head against the machine. TV Blackbox reported the same line-up on Thursday morning.

Is The Chase new tonight?

No. The 5pm episode is Series 16, episode 71, tagged a repeat on Seven and 7HD. TVmaze has no new Chase listed for today either, which matches.

New Series 17 episodes with Larry Emdur have been landing Monday to Wednesday, so Friday's 5pm slot is another repeat, Series 16 episode 52. The next new one should be Monday. Nights, times and catch-up are in our Chase guide, and Wednesday's line-up has the last of this week's new episodes.

Is Millionaire Hot Seat new tonight?

No. Rebecca Gibney's 7pm half-hour is Series 16, episode 97, marked a repeat, and 10 also ran episode 3 as a 12.30pm repeat earlier today.

Three of the five weeknight Hot Seats have been new this week, which is the pattern 10 has settled into: fresh episodes early, repeats to close. The 6.30pm and 7.00pm block is explained in our 10 quiz hour guide.

What about Deal or No Deal at 6.30pm?

Grant Denyer's half-hour goes out at 6.30pm on 10 and 10Play as usual, and the guide does not say whether it is new. That has been true all week, so we won't guess either way.

Worth knowing: the guide has Deal or No Deal four times today, at 7.00am, 10.30am on 10 Comedy, 2.00pm and 6.30pm. Only the evening one leads into Hot Seat.

How many new quiz episodes are left this week?

One, and it airs at 4.57pm tonight. By our count off the guide, Friday has a repeat Chase at 5pm and a repeat Tipping Point at 5pm, and nothing else from our seven shows.

So tonight's Series 3, episode 118 of Tipping Point closes the first-run week, and the anniversary special is the last new hour of any kind until Sunday. The whole week sits in our week-at-a-glance, and Tuesday's post has the last full house of new episodes.

FAQ

Can I stream the 70 Years of TV special? Yes, on 9Now, free, after it airs on Nine.

Why are so many quiz shows repeats on a Thursday? Seven and 10 both weight their new episodes to the start of the week, so Thursday and Friday usually run from the back catalogue.

Is Tipping Point on at its normal time as well? It is. The regular episode keeps the 4.57pm slot, and the special is separate, later in the night. Times and states are in our Tipping Point guide.
