Quiz Shows Tonight, Wednesday 23 September: New Hard Quiz at 8pm and the Spicks and Specks Series Final

Wednesday is the one night of the week when the ABC joins in, and this week it's also a goodbye. Spicks and Specks signs off its series straight after a new Hard Quiz, so the evening runs from Tipping Point just before 5pm to a little after 9pm.

In between, 10's quiz hour splits again. Deal or No Deal at 6.30pm isn't flagged new tonight; Millionaire Hot Seat at 7.00pm is. That's the reverse of Tuesday.

The short version:

• Tipping Point 4.58pm (Nine) and The Chase 5.00pm (Seven), both from the current runs.
• Deal or No Deal 6.30pm is a repeat; Hot Seat 7.00pm is new.
• Hard Quiz 8.00pm and the Spicks and Specks series final from about 8.30pm, both new on ABC TV.

What quiz shows are on tonight?

Sydney and Melbourne clock times; Adelaide and Darwin run 30 minutes behind, Perth is scheduled locally.

Is Hard Quiz new tonight?

Yes, at 8.00pm on ABC TV. It's the second Battle of the Fuddy Duds, with Tom Gleeson bringing back four retirees whose specialist topics the ABC lists as lawn bowls, Francis Bacon, Suzi Quatro and sewage.

There's also an older Hard Quiz at 6.25pm — that's a Series 10 repeat, and it's easy to mistake for tonight's. Series 11 carries on next week, with episode 19 filed for 30 September.

Is this the last Spicks and Specks?

Of this series, yes. The 8.30pm episode is the twelfth and final one of Series 13, which started in July. Nicholas Buc, Becca Hatch, Kath Ebbs and Frank Woodley are the guests.

The guides disagree by a couple of minutes on the start — 8.30pm on yourTV, 8.32pm on On TV Tonight — because Hard Quiz is a half-hour that rarely lands on the dot. Set a recording from 8.30pm and you're covered. ABC Entertains also has an older Spicks at 7.01pm, which isn't the final.

Is Millionaire Hot Seat new tonight?

It is, at 7.00pm on 10, while Deal or No Deal at 6.30pm is a repeat. On Tuesday it was the other way round, so if you only have half an hour tonight, 7pm is the one.

Is The Chase new tonight?

It should be. The IceTV listings behind our week file had Series 17 episodes Monday to Wednesday, with Series 16 repeats taking Thursday and Friday. Seven's 5.00pm slot is unchanged tonight.

How much quiz TV is on tonight?

By our count, about two and a half hours of current-series quiz if you chain it: one of the 5pm shows, then Hot Seat's half-hour, Hard Quiz's half-hour and Spicks until about 9.03pm. Add the two early-evening repeats and it's roughly three and a half.
